Environmental Protection

Because current planning guidelines dictate a greater use of Brownfield Land  Keller have developed  numerous environmental systems to provide solutions to established problems.

Egress of leachate from sites can be prevented with slurry walls which can be installed at depths of 20m plus to provide a highly impermeable barrier. Alternatively, soilmixing with large contiguous columns can also provide a low permeable barrier.

Keller lead Europe in the development of  Permeable Reactive Barriers (PRB) and participate in a major research project being carried out by Queens University ,Belfast. This system can be combined with slurry walls or soil mixing to funnel leachate through active carbon filters or zero valent iron to remove contamination.

Dry soil mixing can also be used to deliver cement or lime to depth to reduce transmissivity.

Where vibro stone columns are to be used through contaminated soils  underlain by minor or major aquifers it is not uncommon for us to install a grouted plug to prevent  downward migration of  leachate.
