Basement Construction
The construction of deep basements often involves protecting adjacent property through the use of traditional underpinning and or piled retaining walls.
Traditional underpinning in water bearing soils can be a slow and hazardous operation. Today, Keller's specialised grouting systems such as Soilcrete Jet Grouting can be used to accelerate construction programmes and safe guard existing structures by carrying out the underpinning works 'insitu' prior to any excavation.
Ideal for disturbed as well as loose water bearing soils jet grouting can also be used to create more basement space because excavation can be made flush with any foundation.
Where basement floors are underlain by water bearing soils, Keller's grouting systems such as tube-a-manchette (TAM) or chemical grouting can be combined with the retention system to avoid base piping.
Bored piled walls are an efficient propping system along the 'open' boundaries of the site and where depth or section limitations dictate they can be combined with either permanent, temporary or even removeable ground anchors.
Where space permits Soil Nails can provide an economical temporary works solution as they stabilise the slope as the basement is excavated.
