Single Bore Multiple Anchors Help New Lock Construction
Geotechnical Division have recently been busy installing 151 No. Single Bore Multiple Anchors (SBMA) for Volker Stevin along the Prescott Channels – leading to the new Prescott Lock in London
SBMA’s are a Patented System unique to Keller which will often achieve 50% more capacity than conventional Ground Anchors and they can be found retaining sheet pile walls, contiguous and secant walls around the country.
At this site they retain a new lock which will control the River Lea above Three Mills at a navigable, but flowing, depth and ‘lock-out’ the tide. It will create a green gateway for barges entering large construction sites in the area helping to remove up to 1,000 lorry journeys a week from local roads. Water transport is greener, cleaner and more sustainable than road haulage, using less than a third of fuel and emitting less than a sixth of the pollution. The new lock will help to improve local air quality, saving 4,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide being emitted and creating a green transport network for future movement of waste and recyclables by barge.
